Hair Coloring, Highlights & Color Correction: Woodbury Options
By Classic Hair Salon and Day Spa | September 14, 2026
Serving Woodbury, Oakdale, Maplewood, Newport, Landfall, and Lake Elmo

One of our regulars told us she feels like she’s getting a “mini spa time with every appointment”, and honestly, that’s the exact vibe we aim for even when you’re here for hair coloring. Hair Coloring, Highlights & Color Correction include single-process color, full and partial highlights (foil or balayage), glosses, and corrective multi-step services. You’ll choose based on the look you want, how often you want to come in, and what your hair’s been through lately. If you’re near Eagle Valley Marketplace or the Eagle Creek commercial area in southeastern Woodbury, we’re an easy stop to work into your day, and we’ll help you pick the right route before we mix a single bowl.
The “I just need my color fixed” crowd, the low-maintenance crowd, and everyone in between
People usually start searching for hair coloring when one of three things happens. You’ve got regrowth and gray showing, your highlights have lost their sparkle, or you tried a color at home and now it’s not matching the picture in your head. We see all of it, including box dye that needs a real plan to get back to healthy, wearable color.
Busy households and commuter schedules matter too. That’s why we keep a mix of quick root-touch services and longer appointments like full foils and balayage. We’re kid friendly, wheelchair accessible, LGBTQ friendly, and we welcome walk-ins when we’ve got an opening, but color work is usually best as appointment-only so we can block the right amount of time.
All our hair coloring services, with a simple “best for” guide
Allover color
We apply a uniform, vibrant hue from root to tip for that clean, polished look that reads “fresh” the second you walk out.
Best for: going darker, refreshing faded color, or getting back to one solid shade.
Root touchup
This is our go-to for seamless root coverage. We match your existing shade closely so grow-out blends instead of shouting.
Best for: gray coverage and keeping your look consistent between bigger color appointments.
Tone/gloss
A toner or gloss fine-tunes the shade and finish. It’s how we take color from “pretty good” to “that’s exactly it, ” especially on blondes and brunettes with dimension.
Best for: knocking down brass, adding shine, or refreshing highlights without re-lightening.
Partial foil
We place highlights in key areas to brighten and add dimension while keeping it natural and wearable.
Best for: a subtle change, face-framing brightness, and lighter maintenance than a full foil.
Full foil
Full foil highlights give you that brighter, more noticeable all-over effect. Foils let us keep sections clean and intentional, which matters when you want multi-dimensional color.
Best for: going significantly lighter, adding lots of dimension, or doing a bigger refresh before fall and the holidays.
Ombre/balayage
Balayage and ombre create a softer transition from darker roots to lighter ends. It’s popular because it grows out nicely and still looks good in natural light.
Best for: low-maintenance dimension, a sun-kissed look, and stretching time between highlight appointments.
Ombre/balayage and cut
Same color effect as our Ombre/Balayage service, plus a haircut that complements the new dimension so the shape and color work together.
Best for: changing your look in one appointment and leaving with a finished, styled result.
Root touch-up/cut
We clean up your regrowth and finish with a haircut so your color line and your shape both look intentional.
Best for: staying on top of roots and keeping your style maintained without booking two separate visits.
Fullfoil/cut
A full head of foils paired with a precise cut. We like this combo because highlights show best when the shape supports the movement and layers.
Best for: big changes, brighter all-over dimension, and anyone who wants a complete refresh in one sitting.
Extra bowl
If your hair is long, thick, or very dense, we sometimes need extra product to get even saturation and consistent results.
Best for: anyone with a lot of hair who wants full coverage and zero patchiness.
Quick decision help: If you want lighter but still natural, balayage is usually your friend. If you want brighter all over fast, foils get you there. If the color is uneven, too dark, or banded from old color, let’s talk color correction before we promise a timeline.
Results we’re known for: healthier hair, believable blondes, and “that’s exactly what I meant” color
We’re big on making a plan, especially when you’re coming in after a home color or years of dark dye. One color guest came to us with “messed up box dye, ” and we mapped out the steps to hit her goal without trashing her hair. A year later, she was still coming back and telling us her hair had never been healthier.
If you’ve been dark for years and want to go lighter, we take that seriously. We spend time getting clear on the tone you want, then build dimension so the blonde looks natural and compliments your skin tone, not just the salon lighting. And when you don’t have the words for it yet, photos help. We’ve had balayage guests bring in inspiration pics and leave with color that’s exactly what they were trying to describe.
“A year later I am super happy with the results, my hair has never been healthier:)”

How your hair coloring appointment actually flows (and why it feels calm)
When you sit down, the first thing we do is talk through your hair history. That means old color, box dye, highlights, gray coverage, and what your hair feels like right now. Then we look at your inspiration and your day-to-day. If you want something that grows out softly because you don’t want to be in the chair every few weeks, we’ll steer you toward balayage or a dimensional foil placement.
We mix and apply with intention, then we check the hair as it processes. No rushing. People comment on that all the time, including how relaxed the space feels. And yes, we do those little details like a great scalp massage when it fits into your service, because it changes the whole appointment.
We’ve got free parking, and we take card payments and digital wallets. If you’re coming from around Eagle Valley Marketplace and want to pair your appointment with errands at Tamarack Village or a quick stop off I-94, that’s easy to do.
Pricing and timing in Woodbury: what actually changes your total
Hair coloring isn’t one price because it isn’t one situation. Your length and density matter. So does what’s already on your hair, especially if you have layers of previous color or a dark base you want to lift. A root touchup is naturally quicker than a full foil, and color correction is its own category because it’s often multi-step.
- Single-process and root work tend to be efficient appointments, which is great when you need an early evening or weekend slot.
- Foils and balayage take longer because placement is the whole point. That’s where the dimension comes from.
- Color correction usually needs an in-salon consultation first so we can see banding, uneven tones, and the hair’s condition, then set a realistic plan.
Add-on that often makes the difference: a tone/gloss after lightening. It’s the step that tightens up the tone and brings back shine.
Minnesota color maintenance: summer pool fading, winter dryness, and the fall refresh
Woodbury seasons are real, and your color feels it. In summer, sun and pool time tend to fade tone faster, especially on lighter hair. In winter, indoor heat and cold air can dry out your lengths, which makes color look dull sooner.
Simple habits go a long way: rinse after swimming, use a color-safe shampoo, and don’t skip conditioner. In winter, add a weekly deep-conditioning routine and be gentle with heat styling. And yes, a lot of people book a fall refresh after a summer of sun and chlorine because it’s the easiest time to bring back richness or clean up brass before holiday events.
Real-life tip: If your blonde looks yellow in winter, you often don’t need more lightening. You usually need the right toner and a little moisture back in the hair.
Why people keep coming back to Classic Hair Salon and Day Spa (and even drive for it)
We’re two years into this location in Woodbury, and we’ve already built a strong base of repeat color guests. Some have been with Awet for years and still make the long drive because they trust her recommendations and they don’t want to risk a disappointment somewhere else. Others tell us they tried bouncing around, and it was a relief to finally find a stylist they feel comfortable with.
“We discuss my ideas for new styles. She makes recommendations that make a lot of sense and I avoid disappointments.”

Straight answers before you book: highlights, balayage, and color correction
Balayage vs. traditional highlights: Foil highlights usually start closer to the root and can be brighter and more consistent all over. Balayage is painted for a softer grow-out and a more sun-kissed look.
When it’s color correction: If you’ve got banding, patchy lift, box dye buildup, or a shade that went way darker than planned, we treat it as corrective work so we can plan time and steps properly.
